This helmet on base stands 6" H, and is a cold cast resin replica of the helmet worn by Charles II, it is handpainted in silver with gold highlights.
Charles II of Styrie (Styria) Archduke of the Habsbourg Dynasty from 1563 to 1590, was noted for military endeavors, some accomplishment since he and his wife had fifteen children during the same time. During the XVI century, Austria was almost always in war. The defeat of Hungary and the death of the king Louis II of Hungary to the battle of Mohács, in 1526, left Austria to face alone the threat of the Turkish troops in the east. This situation led to the increased fortification of Styrie and to create in Croatia a buffer zone, militarily equipped for defense with the country. Armour of combat of the archduke Charles II; made in Augsburg, about 1565, by Conrad Richter, Joanneum Graz, Landeszeughaus, who probably made this armour for the campaign conducted in 1566 by the archduke Charles II against the Ottomans. It is in Styrie especially that the responsibility for this defense fell. One then saw the number of the beaters of armours and the arms manufacturers styriens to reach a new height.
