This is a replica of the helmet of Alexandre Farnese, 7.5" H, painted in silver with gold highlights. Handpainted.

Alexandre Farnèse was born in Rome in 1545. He was the son of Italian prince Octave Farnèse (duke of Parma) and of Marguerite of Austria (girl of the Germanic emperor Charles V). He was high at the court of his uncle, the king Philippe II of Spain. He was duke of Parma of 1586 to 1592, general and Spanish politician, governor of the Netherlands in 1578 when he was famous for these campaigns against the rebels. His great military gifts were exhibited in further actions. He apparently had designs on invading Britain, but was prevented by the destruction of the Armada in 1588, ordered by Queen Elizabeth 1. Sent by Philippe II of Spain to the help of the French catholics in 1590 and 1591, he was the adversary of Henri IV. he died in Arras in 1592.
